Cardi B Is Winning And You’re Not- Here’s Why
We spend a lot of time talking about our season and our year and our time, but we rarely (if ever) talk about the opposite.
The truth of the matter is, not every moment, week, month, year or season is ours. Sometimes we have to sit on the sideline and clap for everyone else who is experiencing their time.
Cardi B is the perfect example.
This year has been her year. This is her season. This is her moment. She’s been collecting win after win, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t taken any L’s. We see the results. We saw some of her come up, but there’s a lot we didn’t see.
There are a lot of missing pieces of the puzzle that were never broadcasted and that will never be broadcasted. That’s what the media does. It takes the highlights we’re most interested in and shows it to us on repeat. It’s the depressing stories on the nightly news that grab our attention. It’s the highlights from football and basketball games that get circulated over and over; not the whole game. Not the missed shots, not the wrong moves, but the highlights. It’s the rappers who have seemingly had overnight success. Not the years they went unnoticed, the struggles they had. It’s the perfect pictures in the perfect places with the perfect captions. It’s not the hundreds of “bad” pictures or the wasted time spent trying to make sure the caption is just right.
We don’t highlight our lows. We aren’t quick to talk about losses we take. We keep that to ourselves because, as always, we care about how other people perceive us.
This is her time, but I’m sure if you ask her (or anyone who’s experienced success in some area of their life, in whatever magnitude it was) what it took to get there, there would be a laundry list of failures, being knocked down, wanting to give up, giving up, getting back up and doing it all over again.
The most important thing you should take from this is that it’s not how many losses you think you’ve taken, it’s about what you do with them. What you do when you’re sitting on the sidelines determines it all. If you can’t clap for someone who’s getting their harvest, you need to determine why that is. Whether you like her or anyone else who is making things happen or not, she’s living her best life, and she’s doing things many people will never even attempt to do.
She’s living on her terms, doing things the way she wanted to do them and it’s working. It just goes to show that you can be who you authentically are and still have everything you desire to have.
This may not be your season, but that’s not to say you won’t have one. Everyone on the sidelines doesn’t stay there; they simply have to wait to be called.
