Setting Intentions For Success

On day four of the 12 Days of Crysmas, I wanted to discuss setting clear intentions. Whether you call them goals, intentions, or mile markers, it all means the same thing.

Day Four: Setting Clear Intentions

When deciding what you want to accomplish for the year, it is important that you are as specific as possible. When you’re clear about what you want, the Universe can deliver it to you. For me, answering these questions helps me become clear about what I want, and it helps me stay focused on what’s more important to me and what aligns with my purpose.

  1. What is it that you want?

This should go without saying, but it’s ultimately the starting point for setting intentions. Be as specific as you possibly can. If you want to start your own business, what business it? What will your day to day tasks include? What will you provide? Services, products, both? Be very clear about what you want to see manifest in your life.

  1. Why do you want this?

Is it because someone else has it? Is it because you believe it’ll make you feel better about yourself? What is your reason for wanting to accomplish this? Understanding your ‘why’ is important not only in setting intentions, but it is also helpful when it manifests in your life. Everything we desire comes with its own set of problems, and knowing why you set out to go after this thing will allow you to stay motivated when you feel like throwing in the towel.

  1. How does this move you toward fulfilling your purpose?

I ask this question because it helps me stay focused on the bigger picture. A nice car, a lot of money, and a big house are all great to have, but do they help me fulfill my purpose? If they don’t, then I need to reevaluate my intentions and determine whether I’m allowing my ego to take over or if there’s another issue I need to address. Even if you don’t know what your purpose is yet, focus on whether your intentions make you genuinely happy, and if they allow you to become a better version of yourself.

For me, these questions help me become very clear about the things I want and why I want them. Be sure when setting intentions to write them down on paper. This journal is my favorite for writing down my intentions, and I make sure I recite them daily so I do not forget what I’m working toward.

Set goals and then be intentional. The follow up is key, very easy to set goals but if you never accomplish them, then the goals mean nothing.
