Taking Care Of Yourself Is Not Selfish

In honor of the holiday season, I decided to give you the 12 Days of Crysmas where I will give one tip a day for creating the best 2018 possible. We’re all preparing for the new year, but these are great tips to live by at all times. Even if you find yourself neglecting these areas, there’s always time to get back into the swing of things.

Day One: Put Yourself First

As women, we have a lot of roles and responsibilities, and it seems there’s never enough time in the day to accomplish all that needs to be done. But we do it. We take care of the kids, our significant other, the house, we work, go to school, run businesses, along with a host of other things. It’s easy to become bogged down with doing all these tasks, but we forget the most important thing, which is taking care of ourselves.

Yes, the kids need to be taken care of, you have to work, and the house needs to be in order, but you can’t give your all to these things when you’re running on fumes. You have to recharge and refresh if you want to be useful to others and to yourself. So, make an effort to give time and attention to yourself. Carve out a few minutes at the end of the day to enjoy yourself, and when possible, make one day out of the week about you. Pamper and cater to yourself for a change because you need it.

Taking care of yourself is not selfish; it is a necessity and something that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Do things you enjoy even if that means doing absolutely nothing. Treat yourself to a spa, or if you’re saving and watching your budget, have a spa treatment at home.

Below are a few of my favorite ways to pamper myself. The most important thing is that you do things that you love and enjoy.

Aromatherapy Diffuser: I love this because you can choose essential oils such as peppermint, lemongrass, and lavender, which not only creates a relaxing environment, but it smells great as well.

Rosewater & Glycerin Spray: This spray makes me feel like I’m at the spa. It’s super inexpensive but works wonders on the skin. I use it to moisturize my face after cleansing and exfoliating.

Candles: I love candles! My favorites are from Bath & Body Works. They smell amazing and set the mood for a relaxing day or night.

Wine: Need I say more? Grab a bottle of your favorite, run a hot bath and relax!

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you don’t forget about yourself. You are no good to anyone else if you’re rundown, exhausted, and barely making it. You don’t have to be everything to everyone all the time.

What are some of your favorite ways to relax?

That’s a great question. Prayer. My instant response was I don’t have a relaxing regimen. Time to change that in 2018
